Should families be present during pediatric resuscitation?

Family presence with pediatric resuscitation has been debated in hospital settings for more than 2 years (McClenathan, Tor-rington, & Uyehara, 2002). More recent discussion has been introduced by various disciplines questioning whether family presence should be allowed for all resuscitations, including pediatric trauma and medical procedures. Nurses have long supported family presence for pediatric resuscitation, but often hesitation is acknowledged among other disciplines (Miller & Stiles, 2009). It is my opinion that until this controversial dispute is settled among disciplines, we must hold off consistently accepting family presence during any resuscitation in pediatrics.
