Should families be present during pediatric resuscitation?

In the last decade, there has been much discussion in the literature about family presence during resuscitation. For the most part, family presence during adult resuscitation has been a positive experience; however, family presence during pedi-atric resuscitation brings different concerns and must be considered in its own right. It is my opinion that family presence should be an option for all families during resuscitative efforts of their child. A consensus among 18 national organizations recommends family presence during pediatric procedures and CPR (Henderson & Knapp, 2006). The question remains, then, why there is debate over the issue.
