Colombian exports reach 54.6mt up just 3.6mt

Colombian exports amounted to a disappointing 54.6mt in 2005, an increase of 3.6mt over 2004 but well below the initial target of 60-63mt at the beginning of the year. Cerrejon exported 25.5mt against an initial forecast of 27mt. Diummond shipped 22.4mt versus the 26mt initially projected. Other exporters totaled 6.8mt. This year could see a growth of 10.1mt to 13.7mt, according to forecasts from the main exporters. Of this total Cerrejon could increase to 28-28.5mt; Drummond is looking to make up production lost in 2005 and could export 27.5-28mt. Prodeco/Carbones de la Jagua is looking to increase shipments by 6.5~8.5mt and smaller producers could grow to a combined 2.7-3.25mt of exports from last year's 1.27mt.
