Eyesizwe expands with Anglo Coal

Eyesizwe - South Africa's largest black-owned coal group and the country's fourth-largest coal producer - has struck another empowerment deal with AngloCoal - the SA coal arm of Anglo American Plc. This is a 50/50 joint venture to develop the Mafube Mine on AngloCoal's Arnot North reserve situated about 30kms east of Middelburg. The mine will initially supply 1.2mt of coal annually to Eskom's Arnot power station from an open pit operation, initial cost of establishing the mine is some R26m (3.95m dollars). But this is just the beginning of what could be a much larger multi-product mine supplying the export market as well.
