New Year starts with a stock market bang

The New Year started with near boom conditions for quoted coal stocks as tightening markets for all coal types - topped by some frenetic takeover activity -spurred investors to maintain the buying pressure that gave shares such a strong ride for 2009. The result was a stellar month for the MCR coal share list, compiled by Credit Suisse, with almost all of the near-50 active quotes making strong gains. North American stocks were again the standouts, as analysts did their sums on acquisitive possibilities.
