German steel sector beats expectations

Germany's steel industry has emerged from the economic crisis better than expected. Crude steel production will reach nearly 44mt in 2010, a 35% increase on output of 32.67mt in 2009, predicts the steel federation Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl (WVS). "This is somewhat more than the 43mt predicted in mid 2010, and considerably more than was forecast at the beginning of the year," said Hans Jiirgen KerkhofF, WVS president.
