SWB abandons new coal plant plan

Bremen-based SWB has dropped plans to build new 800MW coal unit 21 at its existing Mittelburen power station site because plant construction has become too expensive. The company had planned to commissioned the new station in 2011 but the project has been abandoned "due to price developments on the international plant construction market that had increasingly cast doubts on the economic feasibility of the new unit." The decision will lead to a financial loss "at this point in time" running to a two digit million figure due in part to reserved materials but "this loss is significantly more preferable than the risks involved had swb continued with the project."
