Anglo weighs into Canadian consolidation

Anglo Coal has extended its geographic reach to Canada with a proposed all scrip deal to take a majority stake in the metallurgical coal assets of emerging developers, Hillsborough Resources and Northern Energy and Mining (NEMI). The surprise deal has been struck rapidly following this week's scrapping of a plan, announced in May this year, for NEMI to merge with Western Canadian Coal Company (WCCC) after the latter group sought changes in what was also an all-scrip deal.
