Rio’s underlying H1 profit falls 47%, energy division rises 11%

Rio Tinto, the world’s second biggest diversified miner, reported a47% decline in its first half earnings, and warned that whileconstruction activity in top commodity consumer China hadimproved, manufacturing and industry still faced headwinds.In the first half of 2016, Rio said its underlying earnings were$1.56bn, down from $2.92bn in the same period last year.
