EnBW seeks index-linked 2006 supplies

EnBW, which issued an open and informal tender on July 29 for 2006 material, is seeking to book at prices linked to the average of the 2006 API2 physical index; it is now setting up frame agreements with a broader range of suppliers and evaluating offers. The utility has asked suppliers if they would be willing to fix 2006 prices on the annual average of the API2 index. EnBW would pay for frequent, 30,000t, deliveries based on the API2 monthly average but wants the tonnage to be weighted. At the end of 2006, the utility will calculate the final API2 index average price from the monthly averages, weighted according to tonnage. If an adjustment is needed, EnBW will make a single payment or issue an invoice to suppliers. Two of the utility's current suppliers are prepared to do this. EnBW expects that this method will enable it to hedge its buying more effectively.
