A chronic shortage of port capacity is preventing some UK utilities from entering the market for Q4 supplies. These utilities are keen to maximise their imports in Q4 so that they are sitting on comfortably high stocks in H1 2006. Utilities which are still heavily reliant on domestic supply from UK COAL have become increasingly anxious about the possibility that the producer will have another troubled year. UK COAL only recently resolved a dispute with Drax Power, after declaring force majeure on part of its contracted tonnage to Drax early in the year. UK COAL is also behind on deliveries for 2005 to at least one other major coal-fired utility and struggling to catch up before the year end.
