It's worse! DBCT system capacity cut by almost 6.5mt

Dalrymple Bay (DBCT) shippers have been given independent advice that system capacity will be almost 6.5mt lower than earlier expectations for the coming year. The advice indicates that capacity problems are worse than first reported last month by MCR. The causes include rail, weather and mine production issues plus expected loss of port capacity because of delays to planned expansion work. The advice is from the so-called independent expert, set up to counsel shippers under arrangements made with the Australian competition watchdog, the ACCC, when the tonnage quota system was implemented in 2005. It shows that DBCT system capacity for the year beginning April 1, 2007, was forecast in November last year at just under 57mt. But the latest forecast, confirmed last week, now sees shipments at just 50.7mt for the period.
