Colombian ports to load directly

The Colombian Ministry of Mines and Energy will set a deadline in less than a month, requiring all coal loading at export facilities to be done with direct loading and using covered conveyor belts from July 1 2010. Of the currently existing facilities, only Puerto Bolivar (Cerrejon's totally dedicated port) and Carbosan in Santa Marta load direcdy. The rest of the ports located in the adjoining cities of Cienaga and Santa Marta (where Drummond, Carbones del Caribe, Carbosan and Glencore/Prodeco's ports are located) as well as the announced port developments in the cities of Barranquilla and Cartagena have crane and barge operations. According to the requirements of the new decree, all of these ports will have to introduce changes in their loading and handling equipment before the 2010 deadline.
