Yildirim plans 2,300MW of import stations

Yildirim Holdings has signed a j.v. to construct a 300MW import coal-fired power station around Mamara in Turkey, boss Robert Yildirim told McCloskeys Russian Coal Conference 2007 in Istanbul. This station, "to be built within the next three years", will be followed by a further 2,000MW of import coal-fired capacity. Yildirim's plans are just three of many power projects at various stages of commitment in Turkey which could see imports surge from 18.5mt last year to 48mt by 2020, according to Mustafa Aktas, head of marketing and sales at Turkish Coal Enterprises.
