Stu Staley, head of AEP Europe and scourge of the UK government over the distortions and inadequacies of the UK power market, has been appointed AEP's senior vice president fuel supply for the company's US plant These include 29GW of coal capacity with an annual burn of around 84m short tons (76mt). Since Staley will also retain his European and international role where AEP handles some l5mt annually (6mt a year in the UK alone), he has effectively been crowned the world's biggest coal buyer.
