Mibrag’s 352 MW Buschhaus lignite unit entered Germany‘slignite standby reserve on 1 October, where it will remain for fouryears before being finally closed.Its new status may bring welcome relief as the unit receivescompensation calculated on what it would have earned in theelectricity markets were it not in standby reserve minus short-termvariable generation costs. Mibrag therefore gets an income from theunit for four years without having to invest in securing the longterm operation of the plant to 2030 as previously planned.
