Israel's steam coal imports set for 6 percent fall

National Coal Supply Corporation (NCSC), Israel's state-owned utility said it expects imports of steam coal to fall by 800,000t this year, as lower power consumption for industrial and domestic use hits demand. A total of 12.2mt is expected to be imported this year, compared with 13mt forecast earlier this year. NCSC's imports are usually very stable at around 13mt/year. Coal still remains the favoured fuel of choice over natural gas and fuel oil for electricity production. Coal is used in 70-80 percent of NCSC's electricity output.
