Chinese coking coal imports slip, steam coal stable

Chinese coking coal imports suffered a significant month on month fall in August, while steam coal arrivals suffered a lesser decline, as the recent surge in arrivals of both types slowed for the second consecutive month. Coking coal arrivals fell to 3.85mt in August, down 21 percent (1.05mt) from the record 4.90mt imported in July. Despite the slowdown, year-to-date arrivals hit 21.64mt - up 379 percent (17.12mt) year-on-year.
