Four 800MW coal units planned at Brunsbuttel

Getec Energie, a relative newcomer to Germany's energy sector, has announced plans for an 800MW coal power station at the Bayer Material Science industry-park at the North Sea port of Brunsbuttel. Commissioning is earmarked for 2013. This is the fourth 800MW coal unit under development at the port. The Belgian Electrabel plans an 800MW unit while SdwestStrom has two 800MW units under development in partnership with Spanish energy company Iberdrola. These three plants are planned to come on line in 2012. If all four units are built, steam coal use at Brunsb, ttel could reach up to 8mt/year by 2014.
