The negative financial sentiment currently infecting thermal coal spot markets - and spilling into some metallurgical coal types - is being compounded by a rash of outlook downgrades by leading investment banks. Taking their cue from the Wall Street meltdown and global credit crisis, most leading banks have substantially cut their economic growth and commodity price outlooks for Q4, 2008 and into 2009.
