As mentioned in the European section this month, linepipe for South Stream is now being made in mills in Germany, Russia and Japan. While we understand that OMK is looking to secure plate supplies for manufacturing the second string of the offshore section (the company is currently producing the first string), Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC) has started the production of LSAW pipe for its part of the second offshore string for South Stream. NSSMC is producing LSAW pipe for the project at its Kashima and Kimtsu steel works. MBR understands that NSSMC will send the bare pipe to Bredero Shaw in Ras al-Khaimah, UAE, where it will be coated before delivering it to the Black Sea. JFE remains busy shipping LSAW pipe to the Statoil Polarled project in Norway.
