ITALIAN STEAM COAL imports are expected to total 15.5-16.Smt in 2014 compared to 16.5mt in 2013, Fuelmed's Giorgio Ruscito said at the IHS McCloskey European Coal Outlook Conference. Last year the US was the largest steam coal supplier to Italy, ounting for 29% of the coal, followed by Indonesia (22%), Russia (19%), Colombia (18%) and South Africa (18%). Coal-fired power plants were responsible for 14% of Italy's total ower generation in 2013, down from 15% in 2012. Power generation from Combined Cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plants accounted for 39% of Italy's total output last year, compared to 44% in 2012.
