A slide in traded prices and lower export volumes sliced 2006 operating earnings of Anglo to 864 million dollars, down 15.3 percent on 1.02 billion dollars reported for the previous year. The company suffered a marginal 0.4 percent decline in revenue to 3.33 billion dollars in the year, despite total coal sales of 94.81mt, up 3.6 percent on 91.55mt in 2005. A statement said poor weather in South Africa and infrastructure congestion in Australia limited export sales. "Operating profit was lower due to an overall decline in export volumes and a pull back in export prices from the very high levels of the year before," it said.
