German burn drops in HI

Coal use in Germany dropped by 3 percent during die first half of 2005 due to reduced steam coal use for power generation. Steel industry coal and coke use remained stable, according to primary energy figures just published by statistics organisation AG-Energiebilanzen. Lignite use for power generation was down by 2.4 percent, and nuclear reduced its contribution in the first half of 2005 by 1.6 percent. At the same time electricity exports exceeded imports. The lower contribution to electricity supplies by coal, lignite and nuclear was compensated for by hydro power which increased output by 5 percent and wind energy, up by 19 percent compared with the same period of 2004. Hydro and wind together increased their electricity output by 10 percent over the first 6 months period.
