Germany’s Steag plans coal plant closures

Germany’s largest coal generator Steag is taking drastic steps in abid to cope with persistently low wholesale electricity prices,including plans to temporarily or permanently close its coal-firedpower capacity that is operating in the red.The plans, outlined in its strategy paper ‘Steag 2022’, could impactaround half of its German coal-fired units, which currently total5,437 MW, as well as threatening the loss of several hundred jobs.
