Russian exports rise 3mt in HI

Export of coal through ports in Russia, Ukraine and the Baltic states rose by 3mt in HI, increasing to 31.1mt. All the increase was accounted for by activity in the Baltic/Murmansk ports with Murmansk up Imt to 5.4mt, Riga up 0.7mt (to 5.0mt) and Ventspils up 0.6mt (to 2.2mt). With the commencement of operation of the Muuurga terminal in Tallin this month, this theatre for Russian exports is likely to dominate growth throughout the year. In contrast, there was a slight fall to 7.3mt in the Far East (almost all of it accounted for by Vostochniy) with increases in coking coal and falls in steam coal. South Russia/Ukrainian exports were slightly up, rising from 6.2mt to 6.4mt, the increase being limited to growth at Yuzhniy.
