Colombia's production could reach 91 mt in 2014

COLOMBIAN COAL PRODUCTION could reach 91mt in 2014, Javier Garcia, director of large scale mining at the Ministry of Mines and Energy told delegates at IHS Energy's Coal Conference of the Americas in Cartagena last week. Garcia said this year Cerrejon plans to export 35mt of steam coal. Drummond's exports could reach 25-26mt, while Colombia's third largest producer, Glencore, is expected to export 21mt in 2014. The remainder of the coal would be produced by smaller exporters in Colombia's interior regions (mainly metallurgical coal producers), lifting the total to 91mt.
