Richards Bay shipments plummet during rail stoppage

May exports from Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) fell to their lowest level for 41 months as shippers maintained a minimal schedule during a 20-day rail shutdown. Total exports for May were 3.57mt, down from 4.8mt in April this year. The lowest previous throughput was 3.57mt in January 2008 when heavy rain and electricity blackouts played havoc with coal shipments.
