both POLAND'S steam coal imports and exports declined in the first quarter as the country increased its reliance on domestic production for use in coal-fired power stations and stepped back from the export market.Forthe first quarter of 2012, Poland imported 1.99mt of steam coal, which was down 35% on the previous quarter (3.05mt) and down 30% on the first quarter of 2011 (2.84mt).For March alone, Poland's steam coal imports were 0.47mt, down 30% on the previous month (0.67mt), and down 48% from March last year (0.90mt). Russia remained the largest supplier of steam coal to Poland during the month of March, with 0.40mt taken.
