The US silicon metal price has stabilised amid thin trading, although industry sources suggest that the spot market may get a boost if the labour dispute at Globe Specialty Metal's Becancour silicon metal plant in Quebec persists much longer. European silicon metal prices are expected to remain unchanged in the short term, probably until after the seasonal slowdown. Consumers bulked up their stock levels in January when the Chinese cancelled an export tax on silicon metal and prices fell.
