Congratulations to Chris Berndt from Swinburne University of Technology who is President of ASM International for 2011-12. ASM International represents 36,000 members working in industry, government, academia and other settings to understand the properties of, and discover new uses for, all classes of materials - metals, ceramics, polymers and nanoparticles. Chris is a metallurgy graduate of the South Australian Institute of Technology and Monash University and spent many years working in the US, most notably at Stony Brook University where he still holds the position of adjunct professor. Chris is renowned internationally for his work on thermal spray coatings and is only the second person from outside the US and Canada to hold the position of President of ASM International. It is a great honour for Australian materials engineering to have one of our own as president of this prestigious association.processing and the solutions adopted.
