A new heat treatment process that more than doubles the mechanical strength of high pressure die-cast (HPDC) components made with aluminium alloys has been developed by Australia's national research organisation, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). The patented process significantly improves tensile mechanical properties, fatigue resistance, hardness, wear resistance, fracture resistance and thermal heat transfer. Al-Si-Cu alloys may also be anodised following heat treatment.
