Increasing the level of research and development into coal generation technology could save the power-consuming public in the USA between 300 billion US dollars and 1.3 trillion US dollars, according to a new report co-sponsored by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and California-based LCG Consulting. 'Results of the analysis document the value of coal R&D to electricity producers and consumers under conservative assumptions that are designed not to 'oversell' coal technology says Jeremy Platt, Fuel and Power Supply Manager at EPRI. 'The magnitude of consumer benefits is significant and a strong argument for a robust programme in coal technology R&D.'
