'V' level results

The 'A' level results for the UK's 17 and 18-year-olds have shown improvement over preceding years. The results, published 16 August, showed an increase of 0.3 percent in candidates attaining 'A' level grades A to E. After 20 years of steady decline for examination entrances to 'A' level physics, numbers are now on the rise, with 27,466 students opting for the subject, a 0.4 percent increase over 2006. The number of girls choosing to take 'A' level physics has risen at an even higher rate, up 2.5 percent. This has been welcomed as an 'encouraging' trend by the Institute of Physics.
