Not such light reading

This is a book of two halves. The first part is concerned with conjugated conducting polymers, with the second part covering low molecular weight organic solids. There are eleven chapters in all, and each is a self-contained review. The aim of the hook is to make accessible the basic physics and chemistry of organic materials relevant to a study of the electronic and optical properties of organic materials at a postgraduate or research level. To this end, the chapters are well supplied with literature references - several have more than 100 and chapter 4 tops the list at 186. Chapters 1 and 6 head the two parts of the hook and are introductory designed to provide the reader with the salient points of physics, chemistry and terminology needed to follow the remaining chapters in each section. These are clear and provide a nice survey for an interested newcomer to the field. They are reasonably demanding and a postgraduate student just starting in the field, especially one without a fair background in organic chemistry would find them rather hard going, but with some tutorial help, profitable.
