摘要

THIS slimmer, the Medicines, Ethics and Practice (MEP) guide reaches its 35th edition. The first edition was published in 1988 in a rusty orange cover, which at the time was intended to parallel the changing cover colour of the corresponding British National Formulary. The first MEP was itself a successor to a long series of guides under different titles concentrating on the legal classification of poisons and medicines stretching back more than 70 years to 1936. It has evolved throughout that time, changing and adapting in design, content and frequency. The 1988 first edition included the then "Code of Ethics" for the first time and much of the legal digest was originally adapted from the fourth edition of Dale and Appelbe's 'Pharmacy law and ethics'.
