Failure safe dimensioning of chassis components made from AFP steel using the example of a steering knuckle for commercial vehicles

AFP steels (precipitation hardening ferritic-pearlitic steels) have certain cost advantages compared to other forged quenched and tempered steels, but there are still some reservations concerning their behavior under impact load. Especially safety parts of the suspension or the steering have to be dimensioned in a way that failure can be reliably excluded under any circumstances.
