The possibility of highhyphen;energyhyphen;storage lasers using the auroral and transauroral transitions of columnhyphen;VI elements
An analysis of laser systems involving the auroral and transauroral transitions of photolytically excited columnhyphen;VIAelements is given. Excitation mechanisms, kinetic processes, and collisionally stimulated radiation are examined. Photolytic production of the VIA1Smetastable using rarehyphen;gas excimer radiation is emphasized. Oxygen at 5577 Aring;, sulfur at 7727 and 4589 Aring;, and possibly selenium at 4888 Aring; appear as attractive candidates suitable for highhyphen;energyhyphen;storage shorthyphen;pulse applications.
