With incentives in play and new equipment on the way, the St Lawrence Seaway may be poised to capitalize on the container business it has sought for years. The pitch of the Great Lakes St Lawrence Seaway (GLSLS) is familiar to most Canadian shippers. It provides a water-based link into and out of North America's heartland. It has plenty of capacity, unlike the traffic-choked highway and rail infrastructure of Ontario and Quebec. It's cheaper than other modes, and also more environmentally friendly, with better emissions-per-tonne ratings. And it's an ideal way to move containers.
