Scandinavia's leading toy distributor TOP-TOY commissioned Univeyor to supply a fully-automated storage and order picking system for its 60,000m{sup}2 distribution centre in Denmark. Principal among the demands placed upon Univeyor was that the distribution centre had to have the capacity to cope with TOP-TOY's massive distribution peaks in the run up to the busy Christmas period. TOP-TOY's existing picking process was a manual operation: cartons were hand-picked from pallets, placed onto belt conveyors and transferred to the sorting system. The order picking process was also carried out manually, making the whole operation very labour-intensive. The Univeyor solution consists of a high-bay warehouse with 11 pallet cranes, a miniload storage system with six cranes, two Layer Pickers, a conveyor system and a complete PC-based control system.
