Nissan's New Clean Diesel Technology for Japanese Post New Long Term Regulation

A new 2.0 litre L4 DI diesel engine which achieves the best performance in its class, improvement of NVH and which at the same time meets the Japanese new emission regulation (Post New Long Term) is developed. Based on EURO4 technologies, Nissan's new clean technologies are applied. The combination of Lean NO_x Trap (LNT) that is the first application for a diesel engine in the Japanese market, and Nissan's new control technology achieves clean emissions. This engine achieves 63.5kW/L and 180Nm/L with low compression ratio and piezoelectric injector. The three-way catalyst is used as new after treatment system for Japanese PNLT instead of oxidation catalyst. Furthermore, the LNT consists of one carrier with this three-way catalyst so as to improve oxidation performance of HC. To achieve an accurate rich-spike control and desulfurization control, Nissan has developed a model-based control strategy combining VGT, EGR valve, electronic controlled throttle valve and fuel injection system. The LNT system and Nissan's control technology achieve the high conversion efficiency of NO_x and HC and improve the durability performance.
