Driving impressions are based on multiple and very individual subjective perceptions. To fulfill the customer expectations, it is helpful to find objective measures to quantify these impressions. Global objective parameters to rate the pleasantness and dynamic impression of vehicle interior noise are often used when benchmarking vehicles. Additionally the development and application of specific parameters to rate disturbing noises in the vehicle interior is described in this paper. These noises are e.g. knocking noise of Diesel engines, ticking noise of injectors or rattling and howling noise of gear trains. With the objective parameters an easy and reproducible rating of specific noise sources is enabled. Thus an early detection of wanted and unwanted noise contributions is feasible and the customer expectations can be eventually fulfilled.
