The New Generation of EU6 Diesel Engines for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles

The new 2.0 l TDI engine developed on the basis of the modular diesel engine kit (MDB) celebrated its premiere with its market launch in the Multivan and Transporter. The preceding 4-cylinder engine is being successively replaced by one standard base unit adapted specifically to the needs of commercial vehicles. The top engine variants will feature a newly engineered two-stage turbocharging system. Compared with vehicles offered previously, the new engine achieves a significant reduction in fuel consumption, while maintaining compliance with EU6 emission limits. Particular priority was placed on realising a forceful torque curve and improved transient characteristics for the turbocharger in the interests of achieving additional improvements in customer-relevant performance, alongside a reduction in fuel consumption and emissions.
