Importance of grazed permanent pasture for fauna.

The role of grazed permanent pastures as a habitat and food source for wild fauna is discussed and reviewed, together with agricultural practices which are harmful to wild fauna by reducing or altering pasture resources. Beneficial management techniques are outlined, include direct sowing of pastures with the use of a herbicide harmless to earthworms, extensive autumn grazing, and late cutting starting from the centre of the plots.
