Mariupol im. Ilyich Integrated Iron-and-Steel Works, located in Mariupol city, Donetsk oblast, at Azov Sea coast, is one of the greatest steelmakers in Ukraine. The enterprise specialises in flat-rolled products and exports its products to above 70 countries. Mariupol im. Ilyich was commissioned in the end of 19th century by Nikopol-Mariupol company. In 1897, the first products were yielded by the combine tube-electrowelding plant. Later, the enterprise repeatedly reconstructed and expanded. The enterprise was sited next to sources of raw materials and power resources. Its advantage is availability of sea port in Mariupol city. Among the main products of the combine are wide strip (for manufacture gas- and oil pipes), hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel, steel semis. The company is Ukrainian leader in production of plates, steel sheet, tin-plate and galvanised steel, steel coated with polymer, hot-rolled and electro welded pipes (for oil pipelines), steel strip. By January 1, 2003, the combine staff was 59,912 employees.
