摘要

A commercial sodium sensor has been developed that will enable foundries to monitor and control sodium modification of aluminium melts in a more convenient and rapid manner than has previously been possible. This sensor will provide the foundry man with real-time information on the sodium content of the melt thus allowing a much tighter control of the modification process.The development has been due to a close co-operation and working relationship between FOSECO, VITO, Verhaert and Ionotec. Thanks are also due to IWT (Flemish Institute for the Promotion of Scientific and Technological Research in Industry), who have helped fund this work as part of the COSMA Plus project (IWT 000239) 000239 in Flanders.The project team would also like to thank Prof Derek Pray of Cambridge University for his invaluable input.
