The National Association of Home Builders is creating a new pointsystem to evaluate green buildings. It should be an opportunity forCanadian wood products manufacturers. Perhaps we need another environmental standards system like we need more lumber on themarket. Yet more than anything else, the solidwood products industry should view theemerging green building guidelines from theWashington-based National Association of HomeBuilders (NAHB) as an opportunity to get ahead of the curvewhen it comes to customer and public demands. It may alsobe a chance to develop some niche markets that in the endmay become far more. For those not familiar with the NAHB, it is a first-rateindustry association that represents millions of our direct customers across the US, many of whom are the vanguard of thehome construction industry. If they see a developing marketworth dedicating millions in resources to serve, we should takenote.
