Phytogenic feed additives: influence of the quantity and quality of poultry meat.

In a study with 3 test series (n=7456), broilers were fed with phytogenic feed additives and after completion of a fattening period of 35 days, were slaughtered for the purpose of registration of the carcass value (n=527). The following treatment groups were included: a negative control, a positive control (virginiamycin 20 mg/kg), digestarom 1305 (150 and/or 300 mg/kg), digestarom 1317 (150 mg/kg) and a herbal mixture (1 kg/tonne). There was a significant improvement in bird growth (7%) compared with the negative control, a reduction of the abdominal fat and an increase of the meat content of the joints, breast and thighs. The chemical composition of the meat and the fatty acid pattern of the abdominal fat was not influenced by the treatment groups..
