BSE in UK and in the EU - Milestones of the development [German]

Impotant stages in the recognition of BSE and consequences taken are compiled. Among others, technical adaptations in rendering plants impacting the status of feed meals supported the spread of PrPSc. Considering the history of BSE, it becomes clear, that failures have been made, e.g., following the rapid identification of the causative agent, measures to be taken were not quickly enough initiated. However, in a given situation it might be difficult to judge in an absolutely balanced way. Given the available data and historical insight and considering the measures taken, it should be possible to get the disease under control.
