摘要

This paper describes the first part of the problem caused by the swine fever outbreak in the Netherlands during 1997 and 1998. Its impact on Dutch meat and pork production, both in national and international contexts, is discussed. It is followed by a description of Netherlands' meat industry. In the second part, the development and the structures of foreign trade in live pigs and pork are analysed. The article concludes with future prospects for the Dutch meat industry.
